I am going into week 5 of this reading plan and I am in shock I am on track. I’m not what you would call an organized or structured person so staying on task or keeping a schedule are not usually my gifting. Hopefully I am better at impromptu coffee dates with friends and noticing when there is a need. I know for a fact that I am not a schedule keeper but I do like parts and pieces of my life to be at least a little organized. Keeping this reading plan scheduled and structured has been great.
I was exhausted at the end of summer. We had a great, fun, family filled time but ZERO structure. I also didn’t have the time or brain space to write with all the kids home all the time. I fought it for a long time but I finally relinquished to the season and loved (for the most part) summer just being the summer it was. Summer being completely void of structure made me crave a little perhaps that is why this plan has been a breath of fresh air.
I started out with an extremely rough plan for what books I would be reading during each two week section. As you can see there are a lot of question marks because I was and still am unsure of exactly how it will play out. It boils down to about 20 chapters a day.
A huge point I need to make is that this is not the entire bible. I didn’t include Leviticus because I knew it would bog me down. There is beauty and purpose in Leviticus but I didn’t want to get hung up on it during this plan. The psalms are beautiful and I will hopefully jump into them when I get through the narrative of the bible. I will be able to see the emotions and thoughts of the people who wrote them line up with specific events I have just read. And since the psalms is a giant book I didn’t include the Psalms in this plan. Again not because it isn’t important or critical to the scripture. It was just not a right now book for this plan. Proverbs was also not included.
(Here is a little about Leviticus….7 Reasons to Read Leviticus)
The plan is broken into weeks. Each week has 5 days worth of reading. If I don’t get it all done I can use Saturday or Sunday to catch up. Having Saturday and Sunday to catch up has been super helpful. If I would have scheduled the readings for 7 or even 6 days of the week I think the brain games of feeling behind would have already gotten to me and I’d be feeling like giving up.
I will be updating this post as I move along from week to week. There will be the a tiny bit of information on what is included in that chunk of the narrative, what books and chapters were read, and probably some thoughts or aha’s I had while reading.
If you are looking for a bible reading plan maybe this one will work for you!
Week 1
Week 2
Week 3
Week 4
Week 5
These two weeks were a struggle for me to get done. (P.S. So were weeks 7 and 8 for me). I ended up taking two weeks to get through 1 and 2 Samuel and 1 and 2 Kings. Which means my plan for week 6 never happened….I will have to touch back on those 6 books….
Week 6
Week Six just plain old didn’t happen….
Week 7
Oh the prophets….Yesterday I just had a conversation with a friend about how absolutely lost I am when I read the prophets. It was a struggle to get through. I made it through but worried that I wasn’t retaining or learning anything. It is frustrating when it feels like nothing is happening or I am not making any connections in my bible reading. However, I had to remind myself that even if it doesn’t ‘feel’ awesome or I can not see any growth happening that does not mean all hope is lost or the time I am spending reading is worthless. Scripture is a here to show us our need for a Savior and show us Jesus. He is there in the word so it is worth my time to crack my bible open.
